Fachjan wants to continue working on a better “CO2 high score”

HONSELERSDIJK – Tropical plant nursery Fachjan from Honselersdijk has compensated full CO2 emissions for the third consecutive year by planting bamboo. Moreover, every year the company succeeds in reducing its own footprint by making conscious choices.

For several years, Fachjan has had the company’s CO2 emissions calculated by Greenhouse Marketers. Initially mainly to anticipate possible regulations in the future, but now also from a strong conviction, director Paul Janssen indicates. “We expect companies to have to meet various sustainability rules at some point and there was already a CO2 tax. We would like to be ahead of that, but we do not do this to get something in return. We also want to be an example in the field of sustainability within the sector. ”

Planting bamboo
That is why Fachjan has the CO2 footprint calculated by Greenhouse Marketeers and offers its products under the Fair Flora label, which stands for fair and sustainable flowers and plants. In addition, all CO2 is offset by bamboo planting by Bamboo Village Uganda. Bamboo Village is not only committed to global warming by planting bamboo forests, but also offers the inhabitants of Uganda a chance for a better future. The project provides employment and a safe and sustainable shelter by building houses. “There are also plans for the construction of Bamboo Villages in other countries, including Guatemala where many of our plants come from. That is why this suits us very well as a company. ”

Improve highscore
Janssen is proud that Fachjan already compensates the CO2 for the third year in a row and the company also succeeds in reducing its footprint every year. “By calculating CO2 emissions, you gain insight into your business operations. We always thought it was good for us, because we use little pesticides and use geothermal energy. But numerous factors negatively affect your footprint, such as the use of peat soil. By looking for alternatives, also in packaging and the processing of waste, we can reduce the footprint. It’s like a computer game: once you start, you want to keep improving the high score. We did not initially expect to be doing it this way, but we are getting more and more enthusiastic and it feels very good to do this. It has become a permanent part of our business operations. ”

Fachjan is currently working on the entrance of the company in Honselersdijk to promote the sustainable character of Fachjan and the products even more. In addition, the company uses social media channels such as Facebook and Instagram to spread the message. “Whether customers choose you for that reason is always difficult to determine. But we hope that these efforts radiate positively on us. ”

In den letzten Wochen (und bis heute …) hat Fachjan Hunderte von Palmen für den größten Wasserpark in Europa geliefert: den Wasserpark ‘Suntago Water World’, der zum ‘Park of Poland’ gehört. Viele LKW’s mit Pflanzen sind jetzt nach Polen gegangen. Eine große Anzahl von Pflanzen sind jetzt am Stelle eingepflanzt.

Für die gute und fachmännische Verpackung der Planzen war es für unsere Mitarbeiter eine große logistische Aufgabe. Bald Bilder des Endergebnisses.

Fachjan Project Plants arbeitet bereits im zweiten Jahr zu 100% CO2-neutral. Durch Sonnenkollektoren, Erdwärme und inklusive Kompensation für den Transport der Pflanzen zum ersten Abgabepunkt. Die Entschädigung erfolgt durch Investitionen in den Anbau von Bambus in Uganda (Bamboo Village Uganda Project).

Der Anbau von Bambus trägt direkt zum Kampf gegen den Klimawandel bei. Bambus ist ein ausgezeichneter Speicherort für CO2, das wichtigste Treibhausgas, das für die globale Erwärmung verantwortlich ist.

Fachjan kompensiert nicht weniger als 1,9 Millionen Kilo CO2. Mehr als 7.000 Quadratmeter Bambus können damit bepflanzt werden.
